Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were expecting the imminent departure of Darren Fletcher but talkSPORT have revealed that the Scot’s move to West Ham United is off.
The Red Devils’ long serving midfielder was expected to have a medical at West Ham on Friday but Sam Allardyce wanted to make the move temporary instead of permanent, with United preferring the latter agreement.
The Scottish international has struggled to make an impact under Louis van Gaal and has struggled to cement a place in the first team.
“I thought Darren was going to sign a contract,” the United boss said following their 3-1 win over Leicester City yesterday at Old Trafford.
“But at the end they look for a loan and that was not the agreement.
“When you allow your player to go to London for the medical, there is no problem. At the end there is no agreement, it is strange.
“I don’t know what is happening there but the agreement is different there. On Saturday it is off.”
Allardyce admitted that talks had broken down and he was unsure on what would happen next regarding the move.
Punters expect that if a move doesn’t materialise this month, then next summer a move will happen for Fletcher but it is unsure whether or not that will be at Upton Park as was proposed.
