Man Utd are not a team that is associated with selling their most important players. In fact, Old Trafford has been home to some incredible talents over the years, and that’s no different today.
From Romelu Lukaku to Paul Pogba to Alexis Sanchez, the Red Devils arguably have unrivalled quality in the squad – particularly going forward.
However, under Jose Mourinho, not everyone has been able to flourish.
Anthony Martial came to Old Trafford with a strong pedigree, but since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, the Frenchman has stagnated somewhat. A mix of a general lack of form and a lack of minutes have really taken their toll.
Whether a move happens remains to be seen, but it makes senses to consider the pros and cons of a potential departure. So let’s take a look…
It’s fair to say that whilst on his day, Martial is brilliant, his day simply doesn’t come often enough.
For every great game that he has, there are often 3 or 4 games in which he struggles.
At the highest level, inconsistent form simply cannot be allowed – and so is Martial simply an unneeded luxury?
The reality is that Jose Mourinho needs a group of players that he can always rely on, and at present, Martial simply isn’t that.
Despite that, though, there is no denying his potential.
At just 22-years-old, the Frenchman has years ahead of him to develop and continue to learn his trade.
Let’s not forget, he is a recipient of the Golden Boy award, and that’s given to Europe’s most talented young player. You don’t simply lose that talent overnight.
All it could take is a few weeks or months and he could be back to his best and going from strength to strength. Is it too soon to cash-in?
That said, if they do sell him, just think about how much money they could make as a result.
He’s rated at £58.5 million by Transfer Markt, and you’d expect Man Utd to demand even more than that – especially to a Premier League rival.
Those are the sort of funds that could be reinvested into a top-class player.
If Mourinho doesn’t fancy him, why not buy someone that he likes?
We all know about the mistakes that Jose Mourinho has made over the years, though.
From Romelu Lukaku, to Mohamed Salah, to Kevin De Bruyne, Mourinho is infamous for his decisions to move players on too quickly. Far too often in the past, he hasn’t given players enough of a chance – and Martial definitely has shades of that about him.
Perhaps another year to give him a real opportunity makes sense, or in a few years, selling him could go down as a huge error.
