Middlesbrough boss beams in delight with ‘ridiculous’ process ended

The Middlesbrough fans in the Transfer Tavern all seem in agreeance with their manager’s comments over the new changes to next summer’s transfer window.

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has spoken of his satisfaction over the recent changes to the summer transfer window in England.

This comes just one day after it was confirmed that the 2018 summer window will close at 5pm on the Thursday before the start of the season.

Speaking to the Northern Echo, Monk said:

”It’s a beautiful thing that the window has shut. It’s great. Transfer windows are hard to work in, do your business in, it’s become a circus. It is what it is and you have to make the best of it and I think we have done that.

“Once it has closed it takes away some of the speculation, doubts. It is nice to be able to close grey areas. This is what it is now and they know that is what we are focused on.

“It should be that way. No team should kick off and play six games and still have speculation about what your squad is. Stupid. Ridiculous. Any other implications just need to be dealt with and people will need to get on with it.”

Monk’s side has had a decent start to the 2017/18 campaign, winning two, drawing one, and losing two of their opening five league games.

Middlesbrough return to Championship action this weekend as they face bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers.

The Landlord’s Verdict

Our landlord isn’t surprised that the majority of managers are happy with this change.

Not knowing who could be staying and who could be leaving for the first few league games of the season can make team selection quite tricky.

There will still be the task of keeping hold of players as other club’s from around Europe could swoop in for your club’s stars but that sounds like a bridge to cross when we eventually get to it.
