There has been a tangible sense of excitement spreading amongst the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern since it was confirmed that Steven Gerrard would be leaving LA Galaxy.
When Gerrard left Liverpool in 2015, there was always a hope that he would one day return to Anfield, and much to the joy of the Reds in the Tavern – that day could come sooner, rather than later.
According to goal.com, Steven Gerrard has held talks with Liverpool about a possible return – with talks described as being at an ‘advanced stage’.
Interestingly, goal.com note that Gerrard is hesitant to make a quick deal with the club – and instead wants to ensure that his position holds some significance; rather than it being simply a symbolic role.
This is absolutely fantastic news for the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern – many of whom have called for Gerrard’s return since the moment he left.
Steven Gerrard made an incredible 710 appearances during a storied career with Liverpool, and has cemented his legacy as one of the best to ever wear the famous Liverpool red. Whilst the Premier League remained elusive for the ex-Liverpool captain, Gerrard won a plethora of trophies with his hometown club – including the likes of the FA Cup and the much coveted UEFA Champions League.
Our landlord thinks that this could prove to be a stroke of genius from Liverpool – as Gerrard knows the club better than anyone else.
