Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that the United board have learnt a thing or two from Arsenal’s contract dealings in the past and buck their ideas up sharpish.

Reports are breaking recently of Jose Mourinho’s unhappiness over recent contract dealings behind the scenes at Old Trafford. Ed Woodward and the board have seemingly been labouring in terms of contract negotiations and, could possibly end up with an Arsenal type situation, where some of their best players are going to leave for free.

Maraoune Fellaini is looking likely to leave this summer as a free agent and in 16 months time, many of the first teamers could follow suit. Furthermore, the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcos Rojo have reportedly been waiting months to hear back in negotiations.

Our bar staff have been discussing the news and feel that Mourinho needs to start to tighten the ship, otherwise, he could face many problems going forward. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at two reasons why Mourinho should rightly feel angry at the moment…

Disharmony amongst the squad

With constant contract negotiations being the talk of the training ground and players feeling undervalued or disregarded, this could lead to a squad full of bad morale and unhappiness. Which in turn, mirrors out on to the pitch if left too long, as we saw with Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez.

United have always been a well-run club and have often led by example, though could those days be over? Indeed, by leaving talks to the last minute or simply not responding to players needs, they could start to see themselves at sixes and sevens.

Improper forward planning

Mourinho will have a plan of action going forward over the months and years during his time at United, having penned a new deal not too long ago. However, not knowing if a player will be staying on after his contract expires, or if a player is tied down for the long-term will surely be something that’ll annoy him.

This kind of action will lead the club to be reactive to situations and not the usual proactive club they have been for many a year.
