The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern really are no strangers to major rumours, though the most recent one hasn’t gone down all that well amongst our resident Red Devils.
According to a recent tweet from Sky Sports’ La Liga expert Guillem Balague, United boss Jose Mourinho would be open to selling star stopper David De Gea this summer. Indeed, the Spanish journalist indicates a fee of around €25m plus striker Alvaro Morata would be enough to see Real Madrid get their man.
Few would doubt the fact that De Gea is one of the elite ‘keepers in world football, so the notion of losing him – especially to Real Madrid – is a very scary one indeed for those propping up our bar. While Sergio Romero impressed during United’s Europa League campaign this season, the Argentine is certainly a considerable downgrade on his Spanish teammate.
De Gea, of course, has been a vital member of Jose Mourinho’s first team over the last year.
