Manchester United have one of the biggest squads in the Premier League but the fans in the Football Transfer Tavern don’t think Mourinho is using them well enough…

The dearth of players available to Mourinho is enough to make any football manager envious but the Red Devils are still sitting 7th in the league and have had a disappointing start to their campaign, especially by their lofty standards.

After victories in the first three games of the season, things were looking good for United, but 2 points from their last 3 games has seen them topple down the table.

Most recently, they were frustrated by a team sat in the relegation places as Stoke City netted a late equaliser at Old Trafford.

In order to get the best out of United, and maybe squeeze a result out of their impressive rivals, the punters here at the Tavern think Mourinho could do with utilising these TWO impact subs more.

Memphis Depay

Depay has his critics in Manchester.

However, the Dutchman is blessed with exceptional football ability and talent and is yet to show everyone what he is capable of on a consistent basis.

Under Van Gaal, Depay was unable to find that consistency and became a scapegoat for many of United’s disappointing results and performances last season.

Under Mourinho, the landscape has barely improved. He has only featured intermittently but when given the opportunity he has failed to grab it and show his desire.

There’s no doubting his ability though and if a bit more patience is shown in the 22-year-old then we think he could still flourish. From the bench, he would be able to offer short-term bursts of energy – and that could be enough to get him firing again.

Marouane Fellaini

When Mourinho took over the helm at United this summer everyone thought that spelt the end for Marouane Fellaini.

In reality, quite the opposite has happened.

Under Mourinho, the Belgian has appeared to have found a new lease on life.

Despite some good form, Fellaini has found himself back on the bench in recent weeks with Herrera breaking through to the first team.

However, that’s not to say Fellaini doesn’t bring any value to the side.

The 6ft4 central midfielder is the sort of player Mourinho wants to be able to call upon when defending a lead or when chasing a goal because he can tick off either of those boxes.

If he is to start on the bench, he could be a crucial asset and Mourinho will have to use him quite often this campaign.
