‘Mr cheque book manager’ - Man City boss slated as week gets even worse for Guardiola

Football fans of all clubs flocked to the Transfer Tavern yesterday as they hoped to witness a similar spectacle to last week as Manchester City faced Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at The Etihad. The game finished 2-1 to the Merseysiders and Pep Guardiola was sent to the stands at half-time as City made their Champions League bow, losing 5-1 on aggregate.

The City fans propping our bar up suffered a tough night, although it could’ve been so different for the Sky Blues. Gabriel Jesus gave City after just two minutes, capitalising mistakes in the Liverpool back line. Leroy Sane then thought he’d doubled the lead just before the break when he put the ball into an empty net after Loris Karius failed to clear with his punch, although it was ruled to be offside even though the ball had come off of Liverpool’s James Milner.

The goal being disallowed obviously frustrated Guardiola as he furiously confronted the officials at half-time, leading to him being sent away from the touchline and forcing him to have to watch on from the stands whilst Liverpool completed a second-half turn around to win 2-1 on the night. The last week has been one of the worst in Guardiola’s managerial career. He’s lost three games in a row and now looks set to face a hefty fine as he’s been charged with improper conduct by UEFA.
