Naby Keita and Kerem Demirbay: A midfield match made in heaven

Liverpool fans will be delighted to see their stars performing well during the recent international break.

The majority of Jurgen Klopp’s squad were called up by their retrospective nations for international friendlies as well as UEFA Nation League fixtures. £13.5m summer signing, Xherdan Shaqiri, was in fine form yet again, notching two assists during Switzerland’s memorable 5-2 thrashing against Belgium. Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold netted his first international goal becoming Liverpool’s youngest scorer for England since Michael Owen.

The Reds have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League season despite not truly finding their top gear so far. With less than two months until the transfer window reopens, Klopp should be scouting potential targets who can help continue his side’s excellent run.

One man who should be on his shortlist is Hoffenheim maestro – Kerem Demirbay. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the playmaker is no stranger to working under Klopp having worked with the charismatic coach during his short spell with Borussia Dortmund. At Hoffenheim, Demirbay has genuinely been able to showcase his creative abilities despite injuries hampering his progress at the club.

The 25-year-old is blessed with excellent technique and the vision to unlock defences in an instant. Averaging an incredible three key passes per game in the Bundesliga this season, his arrival could help Roberto Firmino rediscover his form and lead to even more goals for Mohamed Salah. Alongside Naby Keita in the engine room, Liverpool would have a midfield capable of causing serious damage to Premier League defences.

Klopp knows the Turkish international first-hand so will be well aware of what Demirbay could offer his Liverpool side. This is a move the German should seriously consider. Indeed, he’s been linked with a move to Merseyside of late (via the Express) and would certainly be a strong fit.
