Newcastle United’s sporting director, Paul Mitchell, is set for a busy summer of recruitment, and it is now being reported that the club have their eye on a Championship star.
The Magpies are on the brink of completing one of their most successful seasons in history, with just one game standing between them and a spot in the Champions League next season.
A victory over Everton at St James’ Park on Sunday would seal the deal, in a campaign where they have also ended their 70-year trophy drought thanks to their Carabao Cup success back in March.
It is no secret that Newcastle have been one of the most restricted Premier League clubs in terms of their finances, with PSR issues plaguing their ability to recruit healthily over the last 18 months.
However, given their recent player sales, the North East outfit is expected to have more freedom to recruit this summer, with European qualification expected to further boost their transfer funds available.
Despite already offloading both Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly in January, the club could still look to sell on their players who have become surplus to requirements, as both Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff have been linked with moves away.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United have scouted Coventry City attacking midfielder Jack Rudoni, adding him to their list of potential transfer targets for this summer.
Should Newcastle sign Jack Rudoni?

If Longstaff or Willock were to be sold this summer, there would definitely be room for depth in the squad ahead of next season considering the amount of extra games that the club will be involved in.
Whether Newcastle qualify for Europa League or upgrade their experience to the Champions League, having a good depth for rotation will be absolutely essential in their pursuit to maintain the high standards they have set this season.
Over 43 Championship appearances, Rudoni – once hailed a “great talent” by Coventry boss Frank Lampard – has scored nine goals, registered 12 assists and created a whopping 16 big chances this season, demonstrating his strong attacking prowess in the second tier.
Indeed, the top flight is a big step up for his career though his potential is clear to see, however, he would offer a great alternative option for Eddie Howe on the bench and could develop into a strong candidate to succeed Joelinton in the future.
The 23-year-old joined the Sky Blues on a four-year deal from Huddersfield Town, but given Coventry’s recent failure to take the step up to the Premier League in the play-offs, it is likely that the club will be open to good offers.
With that being said, Rudoni is an exciting young prospect that could become a great asset with the right development and guidance of Howe, so it will be interesting to see if Newcastle make a concrete move this summer.
