Our punters here at the Transfer Tavern are scratching their heads a little at this transfer rumor, with the Newcastle Chronicle reporting that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Zimbabwean forward, Matthew Rusike.
Indeed, the Chronicle report that McClaren is looking to bolster his attacking options by adding the former Charlton Athletic youth product to his ranks.
Rusike, who can operate both up front and in a wide attacking role, currently plies his trade for Swedish outfit Halmstads, where he has scored 3 goals in 10 appearances in the league this season.
Despite a 6-2 win over Norwich, Newcastle have fired blanks in their last two outings, and bar the emphatic win over the Canaries have found goals a little hard to come by, which is perhaps why McClaren may be looking to bring in Rusike.
On the other hand, summer purchase Alexsandr Mitrovic and Spanish forward Ayoze Perez, are starting to look like they could form a decent partnership. Therefore, for the meantime, it would appear that for now they may be wishing to recruit Rusike as a squad player, as oppose to an immediate starter.
