Newcastle United: Magpies eyeing Leicester City ace Demarai Gray

Newcastle United are eyeing Leicester City ace Demarai Gray in a potential cut-price move as the Daily Telegraph reported that they are one of a number of clubs monitoring his situation.

As per the outlet, the 24-year old only has one year left on his current deal at the King Power Stadium and may well decide to run his contract down before looking at his options as a potentially free agent.

Indeed, Gray has pedigree in the Premier League having been part of the squad that won it back in the 2015/16 season, and has also played 132 times in the top flight across five consecutive terms, scoring 10 goals and making 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Comparing his stats to the likes of fellow wingers Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron in England’s highest division in the 2019/20 season, the Englishman’s three assists were only bettered by ASM and he achieved the highest pass success percentage (via Whoscored).

However, having only started three of those matches with the other 18 coming from off of the substitutes bench, Gray will surely be looking for more regular first-team football, which he may not get under Brendan Rodgers.

Steve Bruce may well offer him that at St. James’ Park, and with the added incentive of a proposed takeover in the North East looming large over the Tyneside club, perhaps a move to the Toon would suit the Birmingham-born man.

Nevertheless, everything is all speculation up until this moment in time, and with the summer transfer window just opening, there are likely to be more rumours on the way.

Geordies, would Gray be a good signing? Comment below!
