Newcastle United: Magpies to rival Crystal Palace for Jordon Ibe - Newcastle United Transfer Rumours

Newcastle United are set to rival Crystal Palace in the pursuit of Jordon Ibe, according to the Sunday Mirror (via NUFC 360).

The former Liverpool man is now a free agent after his deal at Bournemouth expired in the summer following four terms with the Cherries, where he scored five goals and provided a further nine assists in 92 games in all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Does Ibe start for Newcastle?

Ibe has never really been prolific wherever he has been, scoring just 19 times and providing a further 26 assists across 216 club matches in all competitions, also playing for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Birmingham City and Derby County (via Transfermarkt).

For a man who predominantly plays as a winger, perhaps the Englishman should have a greater goal contribution record.

Nevertheless, being just 24 years of age and with plenty of senior experience, Ibe still has a lot of time to grow and develop as a footballer and maybe Steve Bruce can help him reach his potential.

To sign him on a free transfer is relatively low-risk too, as if it does not work out then the Magpies could potentially sell him on for a fee and make a profit on his sale.

Let us start with the 10th most expensive, how much was Jonjo Shelvey?

However, Bruce will surely be looking for Ibe to make an impact on his current squad straight away and hope that he rekindles some of the form that made Bournemouth pay £16.2m for his signature four years ago.

Nonetheless, he may want a deal to be done quickly in case Roy Hodgson’s Eagles come swooping in.

Geordies, would Ibe be a good signing for Newcastle? Comment below with your views!
