It’s fair to say the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are nervous ahead of tonight’s game away at Spartak Moscow in the Champions League.
While the Reds look rampant in attack, the defensive frailties to have plagued Jurgen Klopp since he arrived at Anfield almost two years ago now are arguably more prevalent that ever.
So, our local Liverpudlians are eager for a story to take their collective minds off of their backline.
Which is why so much has been made about Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso’s decision to move into management, after hanging up his boots at the end of last season.
A hugely popular figure on Merseyside, the World Cup winner helped the Reds to their famous Champions League win in 2005, alongside Steven Gerrard.
Interestingly enough, Gerrard is making his first steps into management by coaching Liverpool’s U18 squad, leading many of our fans to dream about a potential Alonso-Gerrard double act in the dugout at some point.
With that in mind, here’s a look at how fans on Twitter started to call for it..
