Norwich City have been dealt a blow with the news that rumoured transfer target Kristoffer Ajer is set to join Brentford instead.

The Lowdown: Ajer linked with Norwich move

The Canaries are looking forward to life back in the Premier League, with Daniel Farke aiming to perfect his squad in the next month or so and ensure they are not immediately bumped back down.

Norwich have been linked with a move for Celtic centre-back Ajer, who has impressed hugely for the Scottish giants, making 176 appearances overall, but appears destined to depart Glasgow this summer.

The Latest: Brentford to sign centre-back

It looks as though fellow promoted side Brentford may have got their man, however, with The Telegraph's John Percy confirming as much on Twitter on Thursday.

Ajer is set to cost The Bees £13.5million, as they prepare for their first season in the Premier League.

The Verdict: Blow for Canaries

Ajer looks a centre-back of great quality and potential, considering he has been such a key man for Celtic for so long and is still only 23 years of age.

For that reason, it is a blow for Norwich to miss out on signing the Norwegian, especially as it strengthens one of their rivals in the process.

Ajer averaged 3.4 clearances per game in the Scottish Premiership last season, as well as 1.3 tackles and 1.4 interceptions, highlighting his pedigree as a defender, and if he helps the Bees avoid the drop while Farke's side struggled in defence, this could look like a hammer below 12 months from now.
