‘Not a bad impact sub to have’ – Liverpool fans delighted to see star back in action

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will all be pleased to see that their man of the moment and player of the season, Mohamed Salah has been named among Egypt’s subs for their opening game of the World Cup against Uruguay. The forward faced a battle to be fit for the tournament after injuring his shoulder in the Champions League final but has made it and is available.

The 2017/18 season will be remembered as one where records were broken. Manchester City scored 106 goals and recorded 100 points, both Premier League records, whilst Mohamed Salah scored 32 goals, the most scored by a single player in a 38-game season. Now though, the Liverpool man will look to take his club form into the World Cup as he attempts to help Egypt out of the group stage.

The Pharaohs have been written off already as far as winning the tournament goes. That’s not surprising to anyone, although it wouldn’t be unheard of for them to break out of their groups and get to the knockout stages. If Salah can have the impact for his country that he has for his club then he could easily help his nation past Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Russia, although a round-of-sixteen tie against either Portugal or Spain would be a stretch too far.

The Liverpool fans keeping our bar afloat will be delighted to see Salah back out on the pitch, although they’ll be hoping he can maintain his fitness and return to Anfield in top-condition.
