For the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, further improvement is needed this summer. Though it has been a solid season for the Reds, they’re clearly a few steps behind the likes of Man Utd and Man City, and so a few new acquisitions will be needed this summer.
Over the last few days, one player that has been linked with a switch to Anfield is Jack Butland. According to the Daily Mirror, the Reds are keen on bringing him to Merseyside in a move that could reach the £40 million mark.
That’s certainly a lot of money, but for a player like Butland, it does make sense. He’s homegrown, he’s Premier League proven, and he’s emerged as one of England’s best shot-stoppers in recent years. Not to mention, Liverpool clearly have a need for a new top-tier shot-stopper.
Nonetheless, this move hasn’t gone down too well amongst Liverpool fans.
The Reds are often a vocal bunch, and they’ve taken to Twitter over the last 24 hours or so to discuss the news, and it’s fair to say that Butland is not the sort of player that they want to see at Anfield.
Many are drawing to the renewed form of Loris Karius. Karius has emerged as Klopp’s first choice this season, and over the last few weeks he has looked very good indeed.
Other fans are simply pointing towards their lack of faith in Butland’s quality.
