The Crystal Palace fans sure are an excited bunch in the Transfer Tavern with the new season fast approaching.

The Eagles welcome Huddersfield to Selhurst Park on the opening day of the season, and our landlord is looking forward to seeing the type of football that Frank de Boer will bring to Palace during the 2017/18 season.

Of course, de Boer will make some changes to how Palace play and it will be a stark contrast compared to how former boss, Sam Allardyce, set his Palace side up last season as our landlord expects de Boer to look to play great football especially against the newly promoted Terriers.

The expectations of the Eagles in the Tavern have really been divided and there has been a lot of debate over what can be expected from de Boer’s Palace side, and what the Dutchman will bring to the South London side.

The debate is almost at the end and our landlord has really been listening in to his resident Palace fans’ discussions and has come up with two major points that they can expect from Palace’s opening day fixture against Huddersfield.

A new formation

If Palace’s first game in the Premier League Asia Cup is to go by, then the Palace fans can expect a change of formation to be tried against Huddersfield.

Our landlord fully expects de Boer to implement the popular 3-4-3 system and the resident Eagles in the Tavern are really looking forward to see their side follow the crowd and re jiggle their tactical approach.

A more effective Wilfried Zaha

There is no doubt that Wilfried Zaha was Palace’s best player last season but our landlord believes that de Boer’s tutoring will take the Ivory Coast international up a notch, and we could well see a different side to Zaha this season.

Under Big Sam, Zaha was stuck out on the right wing for most of the season but the thought is under de Boer, he will be given a free role meaning he could cause teams more issues this season.
