With just over a month to go until the 2017 summer transfer window slams shut until January, Manchester United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have become quietly pleased with the business Jose Mourinho has conducted.
The Red Devils are renown for only doing necessary business in recent windows and not wasting money on eventual fringe players, which could be the reason as to why the manager’s only added two to his options ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
Our United-mad bar man has been left with nothing short of optimism with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from fellow top-flight outfit Everton which means Mourinho can’t be doing anything too wrong if he’s in fans’ good books.
Saying this, however, there are one or two areas of Manchester United’s first-team which do need reinforcements or require strengthening as the Premier League season swiftly approaches.
Bearing that in mind, these are two players that the club must sign before the transfer window closes in a month’s time at the end of August….
William Carvalho
It is very clear that Manchester United need a defensive midfield man to cover that role, and potentially push Paul Pogba further up field, so Jose Mourinho has already addressed that crisis to some extent.
The Tavern has seen reports suggest the Portuguese boss approach both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, respectively, for either Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic but Mourinho’s reluctance to meet the asking price may force him to move abroad for options.
One of the more reliable players in this position is Sporting Lisbon vice-captain William Carvalho, a man who’s sneaked under the radar and heavily become a firm fixture in the Portugal national team with 37 caps to his name.
Aged at 25-years-old, there’s been the odd talk of bringing his services to Old Trafford by our fans at the bar; to be honest, he’s possibly the most consistent defensive midfielder in continental Europe.
Danny Rose
Luke Shaw’s plagued career up to this point with injuries has definitely become a horrendous hurdle to overcome and subsequently has halted the left-back’s progress, perhaps suggesting Jose Mourinho needs to offload him to recoup as much of the £27 million they paid three years ago.
If Ed Woodward is prepared to financially back the team’s manager then our landlord suggests improving this role and quickly as the transfer window is nearing it’s closure, the tavern reckons Manchester United should sign dependable Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose.
The 27-year-old is now an established England international and has easily become of the highest-rated players in his position in the Premier League but to progress his career and have more chance of racking up trophies then a swoop to Old Trafford is the wise decision.
