Nottingham Forest’s attacking options are looking increasingly thin, with Oliver Glasner now facing the prospect of having to replace another striker.
Chris Wood and Igor Jesus are currently the only recognised centre-forwards available, while Taiwo Awoniyi is set to join Coventry City.
That leaves Forest needing another option up front, and Glasner appears to have identified a familiar Premier League name.
Forest Join Race for Delap
Nottingham Forest have entered the race to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap, with the 23-year-old reportedly keen to remain in the Premier League, talkSPORT reports.
Chelsea are prepared to part company with Delap after just one season at Stamford Bridge as they look to reduce the size of their bloated squad. The England striker arrived from Ipswich for around £30 million last summer but struggled to make an impact in west London.
An injury-hit campaign saw Delap score just one Premier League goal and two in all competitions, leaving his position at Chelsea increasingly uncertain. The arrival of Danny Welbeck has only added to the competition for places.
Chelsea are understood to want around £40 million for the forward, potentially allowing them to make a £10m profit on their investment.
Forest are now among the clubs monitoring the situation, with Como, Newcastle United and Everton also previously linked. None of those interests have developed into a concrete offer so far.
Delap has previously been described as a “top, top player” by former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, and Forest could now offer him the opportunity to revive his career while providing Glasner with the extra striker his squad needs.
