Old is gold: The 2 over-30 players Chelsea should secure a surprise swoop for this summer

Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are certainly waiting in anticipation following a wonderful season which saw them lift the Premier League last season.

Of course, the FA Cup final defeat was a minor blemish on the season and our landlord still believes that Antonio Conte should be very happy with how his first season at Stamford Bridge panned out, especially given the shambles of the previous season at the club. The Blues fans in the bar echo this view and there is no doubt that the Italian boss is now a fan favourite.

Our landlord has had further thoughts on Chelsea and he believes that the signing of experience in this window could well be invaluable – especially to replace some of the bigger figures at the club, notably John Terry.

The Chelsea fans in the Tavern have already seen this with the signing of Willy Cabellero on a free from Manchester City but it is more the outfield where some experience is needed for the start of the new season.

Yet again, this topic has raised plenty of debate in the Tavern and our landlord has outlined two players over 30 that Chelsea should make a surprise swoop for…

Diego Godin

With John Terry leaving the club, Antonio Conte may look to one of the best defenders in the world to lead his back line.

With Nathan Ake moving to Bournemouth t00, the Uruguayan would be a wonderful addition to this Chelsea side and our landlord believes that Godin may well be able to lead the Chelsea defence against the many improving Premier League attacks next season.

Alongside the likes of Azpilicueta and Luiz, the Chelsea defence could become unstoppable.

Fernando Llorente

Another player that Conte knows well from his time at Juventus, could Llorente be signed as a striking option for Chelsea this season?

Our landlord doesn’t believe that Llorente is the answer to lead the line at Stamford Bridge but he does believe that the Spaniard is a brilliant option from the bench for the Blues meaning he could well be the difference in tight games next season.

He has been prolific for Swansea City in recent years, so just imagine what he could do with the likes of Hazard behind him.
