The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting a dominant win against Maribor on Wednesday. When the two sides last met the Reds were able to come out on top comfortably, securing a 7-0 win away from home, and so a similar scoreline was expected to be on the cards once more. That didn’t quite happen, but it was a very dominant performance from the side, with a 3-0 win enough to keep our resident Reds in the pub all night long.
It was a decent display from all of Liverpool’s players, but one man that has earned a lot of attention is Daniel Sturridge. It has been a tough spell for the Englishman, but he managed to pick up two goals for his club on the night, proving to all his doubters that on his day, there is simply nobody better.
He’s always been a fan favourite in the pub, but his inconsistency – both in terms of his performances and his availability – had begun to turn fans against him somewhat. That’s all now forgotten, though, with supporters waxing lyrical about his quality. He didn’t start, of course, but the impact he made from the bench was seismic.
It’s a similar tale over on Twitter, with the Englishman earning a lot of attention of Reds fans. A lot of fans are convinced that if he can keep fit and continue to impress, then he could be just what they need this season.
