The Owls are in the Transfer Tavern tonight and they’re desperately hoping that this season can be the season they finally make it to the big time.
Sheffield Wednesday were so close, yet so far from promotion to the Premier League last season.
They made the play-offs but went out on penalties to eventual play-off winners, Huddersfield.
This was only one year after they lost the 2016 playoff final to Hull which, after Hull’s season in the top flight last year seems like a waste for Wednesday fans.
Whilst their present looks like it could bring the club some success if they keep going the way they’re going, you’d expect them to get promoted within the next few seasons, their future looks good too.
Not exactly well known for their academy, Sheffield Wednesday currently have a few potential stars in their youth ranks who could go on to play for the first team very soon.
On that note, here are two Sheffield Wednesday youngsters you need to keep your eye on.
George Hirst
George Hirst could very well be the future number nine for the England national team.
He’s a proven goal getter and at only 18-years-old, he has plenty of time to develop at Sheffield Wednesday
For a time, Everton were interested in his services but that seems to have died down now as the forward looks destined to be a part of Wednesday’s first team plans going forward.
If he can make the jump up to senior level then his goals could fire Wednesday into the Premier League before too long.
Fraser Preston
18-year-old Fraser Preston could wind up being the one providing George Hirst with the assists soon.
The pacey winger has impressed the club at both u18 and u23 levels and since signing his professional contract back in October of last year, the sky looks like the limit for the Scot.
He’s lightning fast and can turn on a sixpence to get away from the opposition defence.
He’s not a bad finisher either which makes him very much so a modern-day winger which could bring in a new style for Wednesday.
