Mousa Dembele is a man with incredible talent when he’s on a football pitch. He offers the perfect balance of attack and defence. He’s able to dispossess and control opposition attackers, but he’s just as able picking up the ball and moving forward, before delivering a decisive pass.
In truth, there’s nothing that he can’t do, and so reports from Calcio Mercato hinting at a departure in the near future are, undeniably, concerning for Spurs.
It’s not particularly surprising, though, as the quality of Dembele’s game has reduced somewhat recently, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Tottenham must have been aware of the chance that he’d look to move on.
Fortunately, though, many Tottenham supporters don’t seem to be too worried about the prospect, as lots of them are confident that the ideal replacement is already at the club. We recently asked Tottenham fans whether midfield ace Harry Winks would be the perfect replacement for Dembele, and in response, a whopping 85% of those polled felt that he would be.
Of course, Winks – who is an England international – has deputised for Dembele frequently in the past, and they share many qualities. The former has bags of energy, technical ability and quality on the ball, and so he’d be a great choice. Significantly, he’s a brilliant passer, and that’s always been Dembele’s main attributee. Not to mention, he’d also prevent the need for a major big-money signing.
Whether Tottenham will look to bring in a top replacement remains to be seen, but many Spurs fans, it seems, would be happy for them to stick with what they’ve already got.
Thoughts?
