Jordan Henderson has never quite managed to convince the Liverpool supporters that he possesses the attributes to captain their great club, and his performance against Paris Saint-Germain last night simply reinforced that commonly held opinion.
Liverpool suffered a damaging defeat in Paris yesterday evening as first-half strikes from Juan Bernat and Neymar ensured that the Reds go into matchday six needing a victory over Napoli to progress into the knockout stage of the competition.
It was an incredibly frustrating evening for Liverpool in a fixture which thoroughly delivered on its pre-match promise of pushing the club to their limits.
Henderson, in particular, looked unable to step up to the level which was so blatantly required to thrive in this game, and the performance was a far cry from his domineering midfield display against the same opposition at Anfield on matchday one.
Throughout proceedings and following the final whistle plenty of Liverpool supporters turned out on Twitter to lambaste Henderson for his performance, with calls for his departure at the core of the criticism.
This is certainly not the first time that a similar opinion has surfaced in the aftermath of defeat, and it seems clear that Liverpool fans believe he needs to be replaced if Klopp wishes to take his side to the next level.
