Spurs fans here in the Tavern are absolutely delighted with the start that their beloved team have made so far this season.
Tottenham have always been up there loitering around the top 5 positions in the English top flight for as long as we can remember, but this season has a different feel about it as Pochettino has the Spurs fans in dreamland.
The Argentine mastermind has been a revelation, as he has his side set up perfectly to tackle the challenges of both European and Premier League football. An attacking style of play that promotes a high press system in order to force the opposition into mistakes. Having scored a whopping 19 goals so far this season it certainly is becoming apparent that the players are buying into what is expected.
Having put themselves in promising positions in all 3 competitions so far, it looks as if this could be the possible end to the Tottenham trophy drought. However, the opposition that stands in front of the Argentine and his men is the scrutinized Slaven Bilic and his West Ham side, as they make the trip to Wembley looking to cause an upset.
After an emphatic performance last time out against title challengers Liverpool, a convincing 4-1 win seemed to down the opposition’s hopes of the title as they look to pick themselves up from the thrashing. So with the players in high spirits and the prospects of a trophy still in the frame, it’s up to the fans and players to keep on raising the tempo as the hunt goes on.
One change that has worked well for the London based side has been the introduction to youth, as Harry Winks has now become a regular in the Spurs side as the promising youngster impressed after filling in for injuries. So for any young and up and coming players sat on the sidelines it’s a real eye-opener as they can now see the gates to stardom open up.
So, here are two players that Pochettino could think about featuring against West Ham tonight…
Kyle Walker-Peters
The U21 international has made an impressive 3 appearances as he’s slowly eased into top flight football. Operating as a right back, his main outlet is his pace as he glides down the right-hand side creating opportunities and getting balls into the box. If he’s anything like the former Kyle Walker, then this youngster is going to be something special as they share very similar games.
Facing a struggling Premier League side in the EFL cup, with an added factor of a busy few weeks for the squad may just force Pochettino to ring in the changes with this man being hopeful. Having started Serge Aurier in both games played over the past 5 days, the Argentine may look to give him a well-earned rest which gives Walker-Peters to go out there and impress in the cup once again.
So for a fullback at 20 years of age who has already managed to push his way into the Tottenham squad, it’s beginning to look like the future is bright for this young man.
Georges Kevin Nkoudou
Spurs have been a side who have never been shy of giving the youth of today a chance. In 2016 Marseille sold one of the most promising wingers in French football, as he made his way to White Hart Lane. However, the French winger has quite possibly arrived at the wrong time with Spurs on flames of late. In having Kane, Alli, Son and Eriksen on your team its always going to be tough to find a way in.
Bringing a whole armoury of attributes and tricks of the trade with him, he really has the promise to succeed at this level. However, after making 4 appearances for the side so far this season he will be hopeful of another, as they welcome the Hammers to Wembley in what we imagine would be a weakened Spurs side after a busy schedule.
So for a player that was competing at the highest level in the Ligue 1 with the calibre of promising players that they produce, the future looks bright for the tricky winger.
