Potential Chelsea move in January revealed after frustrating summer for Conte

It was a strange day for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern yesterday.

Indeed, though Antonio Conte was able to bring in both David Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta late last night, Ross Barkley’s botched move to Stamford Bridge has frustrated the Blues in our bar.

The England international is believed to have changed his mind over the idea of moving to west London DURING his medical, much to the annoyance of our west London locals.

However, according to the Guardian, the Premier League champions could revisit a deal for the Everton outcast in January. The 23-year-old is currently injured, though is out of contract next summer and has reportedly indicated he will reconsider his options at that point.

Everton are understood to have refused to speak to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day, meaning Barkley is thought to have felt pressured about moving to SW6, leading to his eventual rejection.

After a frustrating summer for the Chelsea fans in our bar, they don’t want to see the club go back in for Barkley, believing he’s had his chance now.

Landlord’s Verdict:

In January, Barkley would probably be a decent enough signing. Fully fit and with just six months left on his deal, the England star would surely cost very little, though the fact he’s already snubbed Chelsea won’t go down well.

Time to move on.
