Leeds United went into their clash with West Brom at the weekend with a lot of expectation on their shoulders. They’ve remained at the top, or at least close to it, for all of the season so far, and a big win would have cemented their expectations for the campaign ahead.
However, it didn’t quite go to plan.
They ended up comfortably losing against the Baggies, with Darren Moore’s men good value for their 4-1 win.
It’s fair to say that, in the context of the season, the result is a very important one. It indicates that there is a long way for Leeds still to go, whilst it also highlights the competition on display in the Championship.
But what could come of Leeds’ loss to West Brom? Let’s take a look at a few potential consequences…
Marco Bielsa Changes Tactic
Marco Bielsa is a top manager, make no mistake. He’s got bags of experience and quality, and he’s proven it already this season.
However, does he need to change it up?
It does feel like things have got a little bit stale at Elland Road as of late, and Bielsa will only be able to freshen things up by making changes.
That’s not just with regards to the personnel, too. He needs to freshen up his tactics, and he needs to do it fast.
Leeds can’t just keep running off of their brilliant start to the season.
Jamal Blackman Gets A Chance
Jamal Blackman’s loan to Leeds United hasn’t quite gone to plan so far.
The Chelsea goalkeeper has yet to get a chance – but could it finally be coming his way?
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has had a tough few weeks, and he was at fault against West Brom at the weekend for at least one goal. More broadly, he’s no longer the reliable hand that he once was.
Blackman deserves a chance, and he impressed in the Championship last season.
West Brom Push On
It would be remiss not to mention West Brom. For all of Leeds United’s failings, the Baggies got it spot on against the Peacocks.
They were in control of the game from the first minute, and Darren Moore got his tactics spot on from the onset and throughout.
So, if that’s a sign of what’s to come, it’s hard to look past them as being genuine title contenders this season.
They’ve really looked good for much of the season, and though Moore’s managerial run is only in its infancy, it’s fair to say that he’s got all the talent in the world.
