The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are STILL talking about Philippe Coutinho.
Obviously, the Brazilian remained at the club over the course of the summer despite multiple bids from Barcelona, though he did invoke the ire of our resident Reds along the way.
Thought to have handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move to the Camp Nou and then struck down with a mystery injury before playing for Brazil, the 25-year-old isn’t the most popular figure in our bar right now.
So, reports from the Daily Mail have proven rather divisive today.
They claim Jurgen Klopp is considering reintegrating the South American into the first-team ahead of Liverpool’s game with Manchester City this weekend. It’s a huge game at the Etihad, even at this early stage of the campaign, though the Merseyside giants have looked wonderfully lethal in attack as it is so far this season.
The likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino form one of the most exciting attacking tridents in the Premier League right now and there’s also new £40m man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to throw into the mix.
Though Coutinho is clearly a fantastic player, the Liverpool fans in our bar are split on whether or not he should be brought back while the others are playing so well.
Landlord’s Verdict:
Obviously, the pride factor comes into play here for Liverpool fans. Bringing him back to walk into the team after his reported antics this summer leaves a sour taste in the mouth, but few would doubt the fact the Reds are better with him about.
