According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Michy Batshuayi’s future is far from certain heading into the rest of the January transfer window. The Belgium international currently plays his football at La Liga outfit Valencia on loan from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, yet struggles for form in Spain have raised the possibility that his temporary spell at the Mestalla could be cut short.

And that’s because reports suggest that Valencia are in discussions with the Blues about ending Batshuayi’s time at the club, which should be of keen interest to Leicester City manager Claude Puel as he eyes up the signing that could finally take the weight off Jamie Vardy’s shoulders.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the former England international has been the Foxes talisman for many a year now given his remarkable goal-scoring record for the club, what with the 32-year-old having scored at least 15 goals in each of his last three full seasons at the King Power Stadium.

And with seven goals in 17 Premier League games already this term, thus propelling him to the top of Leicester’s goal-scoring charts, the former Fleetwood Town front man looks set to again play a vital role in what success the Midlands outfit have this term.

But aside from Vardy, the other striking options at Puel’s disposal simply haven’t been able to produce the goods, thus giving the Frenchman a problem if and when Vardy hasn’t been and isn't available for selection, as was the case in their embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Newport County in the FA Cup last weekend.

Between Shinji Okazaki, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Fousseni Diabate, the trio have notched a paltry two goals for the Foxes this term, all of which coming from the boot of Iheanacho - in fact, the former has since been linked with a move away, and the latter has sealed a loan move to Sivasspor to suggest that the striking ranks simply aren’t up to scratch.

And with Vardy turning 32 today, Leicester simply cannot rely on the Englishman’s goals forever, which is why a move for Chelsea’s Batshuayi this month could finally take the weight off the striker’s shoulders.

The Belgium international may have struggled greatly at Valencia this season with a meagre three goals in all competitions for the Spanish outfit, but the 25-year-old’s goal record for Chelsea underlines that he certainly has what it takes to succeed in English football.

The former Marseille forward has netted 19 times in just 51 games for the Blues since his move from the French side back in 2016, and with most of those coming from the substitute’s bench, it equates to a goal every 93 minutes of action in a Chelsea shirt - that is some record.

And with plenty of goals during his time at Marseille and indeed Borussia Dortmund last season, for whom he netted nine times in just 14 appearances, there is clearly a hugely accomplished striker in Batshuayi just waiting to be unlocked more regularly in English football - Leicester may be able to do just that.

And with Vardy very much the main man at the King Power Stadium, and few others doing a good enough job of easing the burden on the striker, the arrival of £27 million-rated Batshuayi (as per Transfermarkt) would go some way to taking the weight off the Englishman’s shoulders.
