A lot of Liverpool fans have been wondering how they might line up next season in terms of attacking depth. The club has got Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke and whilst it looks like they could be selling Origi and Ings, Sturridge could be set to play a new role as a versatile attacking midfielder.
The idea of Daniel Sturridge as a versatile attacking midfielder, who doesn't have to run in behind or be the first line of the press is something I can get behind.

It’s not the easiest thing to envision, Sturridge playing behind a striker, but in theory, it could work. The 28-year-old should be at the peak of his powers, scoring goals for Liverpool and England as a star on the world stage. Unfortunately, though, injuries have cost the striker his chance to be one of the best forwards on the planet and whilst he used to have pace to burn, his injuries have meant he’s lost his considerable speed.
Sturridge back in the day was a force of nature. Alongside Luis Suarez, there was nothing that Liverpool couldn’t do, other than win the Premier League that is, and opposing defences didn’t know how to handle the England man. Today is a very different story and whilst the Reds still have a soft spot for the ex-Chelsea man, they can’t see him being able to fit into a new role in the Liverpool midfield as his fragility and lack of effort in the press looks to have cost him the chance to thrive under Jurgen Klopp.

He's too greedy, be shooting from 40 yds all the time

Sturridge in the Recoba role? It’s a beautiful dream but would not work unfortunately.

Just from a handful of tweets you can see that the Liverpool fans are heavily against Sturridge being used in midfield next season.
