Dejan Lovren made his first appearance of the season last night as Liverpool hosted Chelsea at Anfield and the self-proclaimed ‘best defender in the world’ contributed as The Reds lost their first game of the season. In the aftermath of the defeat, the fans have been calling for Joe Gomez to replace Lovren for this weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

Lovren looked good last season when he was partnering Virgil van Dijk and it seemed last night like he was lost without the big Dutchman next to him. Alongside Joel Matip The Kopites suffered their usual mistakes and were made to look silly by Eden Hazard at the end when the Belgian scored one of the goals of the season so far. Now, though, with a trip to Chelsea this weekend, the fans are desperate to see Lovren dropped in favour of Gomez.
Joe Gomez came into the Liverpool team at the start of this season as Lovren was out with injury and the youngster seemed desperate to make good on his chance. He helped Liverpool to seven straight wins in all competitions and kept four clean sheets in that time. Jurgen Klopp will struggle to drop Gomez given his form in the Premier League and the fans are eager to see van Dijk and Gomez starting at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds can’t wait to see Gomez back in the side and will be keen to see Lovren on the bench for the foreseeable future.
