Fresh from putting Tottenham Hotspur to the sword in the Champions League last night, RB Leipzig star Timo Werner hinted (per Fabrizio Romano) that he welcomed links suggesting he was a target for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this summer.
Timo Werner: “Liverpool are the best team in the world at the moment, and when you're linked with that team… yes, it makes me very proud”. 🔴 #LFC #Liverpool

Obviously, the Reds haven’t spent big since the splurge that saw them sign Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk in 2018 but the German striker was recently touted as a target by the Daily Express for those at Anfield. Indeed, with 20 goals this season, the 23-year-old has proven himself in a major European league but, as the Express report, his presence could see the Reds change their approach.
Noted as a striker who likes to get in behind, the report suggests Roberto Firmino could be dropped deeper into a No.10 role in a 4-2-3-1 with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane flanking him.
Whether or not that comes to pass remains to be seen of course but, as tweeted about Romano, Werner did little to pour cold water on the suggestions he could follow Naby Keita from east Germany to Merseyside. With that in mind, here’s a look at what a number of fans made of the comments online.
