Liverpool are looking to sign Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul to lead the squad rebuild next summer, according to reports in Italy.
Klopp thinking ahead
That is what Sport Mediaset (via Sport Witness) is saying, with manager Jurgen Klopp looking to strengthen his squad by bringing the 26-year-old to Anfield.
However, the report added that De Paul will not come cheap, with a price tag of €40m (£34.4m) placed on his head if the Serie A club are to consider selling.
The Argentina international is highly-rated in Italy, especially by his former manager Julio Velazquez who told TuttoMercatoWeb that he is a player who “lacks absolutely nothing” and “could play for any club in the world.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
After what has happened at Liverpool over the past two months, Klopp must look to who they can bring in next summer.
While De Paul would be an exciting addition to the squad, we feel this would hinge on what happens regarding the contract situation of Georginio Wijnaldum, with his future still looking uncertain at this stage.
Because of the vast options that the Reds already have in midfield, Liverpool’s interest could be withdrawn if the Dutchman signs a new deal.
That being said, Klopp lacks a goalscoring midfielder and while De Paul has five to his name, the question remains as to whether this would be enough going forward.
