Manchester United: Red Devils fans react to club’s Juan Mata birthday message

Many Manchester United fans flocked to a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account wishing veteran Juan Mata a happy birthday.

After arriving at Old Trafford from Stamford Bridge for £40.26m, the dead-ball-specialist has made just shy of 250 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 48 goals and producing 42 assists in all competitions so far. Mata has also played for Valencia and the Real Madrid academy, and earned 41 caps for the Spanish national team, lifting the World Cup and EUROs trophy, bagging 10 goals along the way.

The 32-year-old has played in 17 games in the Premier League under club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, providing 2 assists and creating 1.1 key passes per game in the English top flight (WhoScored). During his time at United, Mata has won the Europa League twice, the FA Cup and League Cup up until now (Transfermarkt).

His contract is set to expire next year although the board do have the option to extend the agreement for a further year (Transfermarkt).

Predictably, the club’s post prompted loads of replies from the United faithful, with one fan dubbing the Spanish “magician” as a “true inspiration,” and another calling him a club “legend.”
