January signings can have a big impact on a team’s success for the rest of the season. Over the years in England, major names have moved during the winter month and had a lot of success, with players including Luis Suarez at Liverpool and Nemanja Vidic at Man Utd proving to be worth their weight in gold after January arrivals.
Tottenham had a success of their own last January, with the arrival of Lucas Moura. Though he’s been a tad inconsistent, the Brazilian has been unstoppable on his day, and that just goes to show how important the next few weeks could be for Spurs.
They didn’t sign anyone over the summer, and with the Evening Standard reporting that they were interested in a move for Christian Pulisic prior to his move to Chelsea, it’s important that Daniel Levy backs his manager in the relevant areas.
It’s still key, though, that the club invests wisely. They can’t afford to make any silly moves, and so their targets must be well thought-out. One man that would be a fantastic addition is Polish forward Krzysztof Piatek.
Piatek has proven his worth as one of Europe’s best and most lethal forwards this season, with his goalscoring record up there with everyone on the continent thus far. He’s bagged a remarkable 13 league goals from just 19 appearances, proving his worth in Serie A all the while.
A fantastic finisher, Piatek has a lot in his locker beyond just scoring goals. He’s strong and robust, and that makes him a real nuisance going forward, whilst his link-up play is also strong. In many ways, he’s turning into the complete forward. And to make things even better, he’s just 23-years old. That means that there is a lot of room for further growth in the Pole’s game, and especially under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino, the sky is truly the limit.
Significantly, there’s a real need for a player like Piatek in the Tottenham squad, too. Harry Kane is an incredible forward, but beyond the Englishman, there’s a lack of options for Mauricio Pochettino. From Fernando Llorente to Vincent Janssen, Spurs have been unable to find a good back-up for their main forward, and it’s time that they find a solution. In Piatek, they’d surely find just that, as the forward seems to be doing everything right at present.
