Southampton will be wanting to improve their squad during the January transfer window as the relegation battle heats up.
The club find themselves in a very bad situation right now, as they sit in 18th position and two points adrift of the place above.
For all the talented players Ralph Hasenhuttl has available to him on paper, those guys have not been performing well enough on a consistent basis.
Southampton could be a good side on their day but the manager needs financial backing to ensure their safety come the end of the season.
An area that specifically needs attending to is their defence, where they could improve by signing Reading’s top centre-back Liam Moore.
Moore, (who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt) is an imposing defender that has real talent and would certainly be an upgrade on the current options Southampton have.
The 25-year-old left Leicester in 2016 and has since proven to be a big and important player for Reading, as he consistency performs well for the Championship side.
With regular time on the pitch, Liam Moore has been able to showcase himself to the rest of the English league and show how good he can be.
His leadership skills and assertiveness from defence has led to Liam Moore becoming captain of the club and that is something that will only interest Southampton further.
Moore has fantastic intelligence for the game and deserves to be playing at a higher level, which he could do with a move to Premier League Southampton.
Defensively, Southampton must tighten up and signing Liam Moore is an efficient way of solving that issue.
