Reports suggest Tottenham are lining up a shock transfer for Burnley shot-stopper – Nick Pope.

Tottenham number one, Hugo Lloris, was given his marching orders against PSV Eindhoven at the weekend meaning Michel Vorm will be forced to step in against the Dutch champions when the Champions League returns to Wembley. The former Swansea man, whose contract expires at the end of the season, struggled earlier in the season when Lloris was out of action following a drink-driving charge. The Mirror reports Mauricio Pochettino is eager to add another goalkeeper to his squad to add competition for Lloris and will target Burnley’s Pope.

The youngster was injured early in the season allowing Joe Hart to stake a claim for the Burnley number one jersey following his arrival from Manchester City in the summer. The Clarets would demand a huge fee for their prized asset who has spent just one season at the highest level. If Tottenham are in the market for a ‘keeper, they should attempt to lure Gianluigi Donnarumma to North London.

Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the AC Milan shot-stopper has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers after breaking into the first-team at the tender age of 16. The 19-year-old remains a key player for the Italian side who have struggled so far in the Serie A this season. Gennaro Gattuso’s side are languishing in 12th place and Donnarumma could be tempted to make a switch to the Premier League.

With excellent diving and reflexes, Donnarumma would actually be an upgrade on Lloris. The Frenchman has made a number of mistakes this season whereas the Italy international is known for his cool head in between the sticks. At just 19-years-old, he will only get better under Pochettino’s guidance.

If Spurs do attempt to sign a goalkeeper, they need to spend big and secure one of the biggest talents in Europe.
