Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s side could have leapfrogged the Blues into the top four had they picked up three points, but now find themselves six points adrift and back in seventh (BBC Sport).
Plenty of Spurs players were well below par against Frank Lampard’s side, however one who has come in for specific criticism on social media is right-back Serge Aurier.
The Ivorian didn’t play well in the game. Indeed he gave possession away 24 times, only one of his five attempted crosses were accurate and his passing accuracy was down at 63% (SofaScore).
Added to that, he was also partly at fault for Chelsea’s opening goal as he turned away as the Blues took a short corner, which gave Willian space to run into the box and fire brilliantly past Paulo Gazzaniga (Sky Sports).
After the game, Aurier has received plenty of stick from fans on Twitter. Here is what some had to say…
My worries aren’t w Toby or Sanchez from today. Thought Jan and Aurier however were awful

So the day after. The honeymoon is over. Will the real Jose now turn up. Stop trying to please everyone. Our midfield is slow and predictable. Aurier is not a professional footballer and shouldn’t be anywhere near the club. Aurier/Sissoko/Sanchez cannot play in same team. Awful!

Aurier is honestly worse than playing with 10 men

Honestly it doesn’t get much worse than Serge Aurier at right back
Only worse performer at that position I’ve seen was when Poch stuck Davinson Sanchez out there

I wanted and believe in Mourinho but you get what you deserve when….
1. Aurier is bad, we all know it, cost first goal, play Foyth RB
2. Sissoko/Dier not working, we lack a Dembele, you need to play Ndombele, Eriksen or Lo Celso from the start
Top 4 is gone now, or?#THFC

Aurier is abysmal

Aurier is diabolical

Rather play with 10 men then have Aurier on the pitch
