Tottenham: These fans felt that Dele Alli should have been named man of the match in win at West Ham - Tottenham

Jose Mourinho got off to a winning start as Tottenham manager today, but plenty of Spurs fans still had one grievance at the full-time whistle.

However, many Tottenham supporters felt that the honour should have been awarded to Dele Alli, who provided the assist for the South Korean’s goal.

The England midfielder was starting his fifth consecutive Premier League game for Spurs and ended the match with two shots, two key passes and 33 passes in total (as per WhoScored), leaving fans in awe of his display.

Alli was goaded by Mourinho during the week, with Spurs’ new manager saying: “I asked him if he was Dele or Dele’s brother. He told me he was Dele. ‘OK,’ I said. ‘Play like Dele’.” [via The Guardian]

Alasdair Gold of Football London lauded the 23-year-old’s performance afterwards, describing it as “his best performance in a Spurs shirt for a long while”, adding that “he was involved in everything that the away side did well” at London Stadium.

These Tottenham fans on Twitter felt that Alli and not Son should have scooped the man of the match prize:
