West Ham United’s 4-0 loss against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night was pretty humiliating for the club.
Naturally, many Hammers fans have been discussing the shortfalls of the players who were involved in the defeat.
One of those to be heavily criticised is Colombian holding midfielder Carlos Sanchez, who has been completely written off by some.
His part in Oxford’s first goal definitely won’t have helped his case with the supporters, after he allowed Elliott Moore space in the box to get his shot off, which went under the 33-year-old’s foot, as shown in the highlights video on the Sky Sports Football YouTube channel.
His statistics from the game show that he made: 2 interceptions, 1 tackle, won 4 duels, completed 87% of his passes and lost possession 9 times, as per SofaScore – this is a pretty mixed bag, though the reaction to that performance is unanimous.
He has only played 14 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, which came across three substitute appearances, as per WhoScored, so the likelihood is that Hammers fans won’t be seeing him on the pitch too much in the near future.
A selection of Twitter reaction to Sanchez’s performance, including posts from frustrated West Ham fans, can be seen below:
If you ever feel a lack of ambition in life, just remeber Carlos Sanchez earns £70K per week.
He’s honestly the biggest disgrace I’ve ever seen at this club.#WHUFC

Wouldn’t get in the Oxford team mate. Thing is we all knew it before anyone even kicked a ball this season. Don’t like to be negative but how have we not got a capable back up DM. Don’t want to see Sanchez ina West Ham shirt ever again! https://t.co/QumjASFYa7
