Ruben Neves would be wise to stay put at Wolves instead of leaving to join Manchester United this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Neves linked with United move

The 24-year-old has been a wonderful player for Wanderers, shining with his playmaking ability in midfield and being hailed as 'terrific' by Jamie Redknapp and 'amazing' by Josa Sa.

Neves has been linked with a move to United after an excellent season, however, with the Red Devils seeing him as someone who can improve their fortunes in the middle of the park.

It remains to be seen what the Portuguese's decision will be at the end of the season, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2024.

The Latest: Journalist makes key claim

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones questioned why Neves would even want to join United over Wolves, given the plight of both clubs currently:

"If Wolves gave him everything that he might be getting somewhere else anyway, then why leave?

"You can’t really say that Manchester United are miles ahead of where Wolves are right now. Even if they got to fourth spot and Wolves finished fifth, I think it would still be a big decision to leave Wolves."

The Verdict: Big summer decision

Keeping hold of Neves this summer would be huge, with the 24-year-old arguably approaching his peak years and his all-round quality making him a really useful player in the hub of this Wolves team.

He has averaged 2.2 tackles and 1.2 clearances per game in the Premier League this season, added to by a pass completion rate of 82.2%, showing what a complete player he has become.

Neves has also averaged the second-most completed dribbles per 90 out of Wolves entire squad in the top flight this campaign, again backing his real composure in midfield (WhoScored).

However, if the 31-year-old demands to join United then they should let him leave - having an unhappy player around helps nobody - but if that happens they must ensure they receive huge money for him to spend on a tailor-made replacement.
