Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves could still move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Lowdown: Neves has been superb this season

Having arguably fallen short of his highest level last season, the 24-year-old is enjoying a fantastic 2021/22 campaign for Bruno Lage's side.

Neves' performances have helped Wolves to join the battle for a top-four finish, with the Portuguese making 21 Premier League appearances to date, 19 of those as a starter.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to United, though, as the Red Devils look to make top-quality additions in the middle of the park.

The Latest: Journalist talks up Man Utd move for Neves

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O'Rourke said that he expects United to come back in for Neves this summer, in a worrying update from a Wolves perspective.

He outlined: "Manchester United looked at him last summer, Arsenal as well. I’m sure Man United, we know they’re in the market for a couple of midfielders, I’m sure they will rekindle their interest in Ruben Neves."

The Verdict: Potential massive blow

Neves has been such an influential presence this season, excelling both on and off the ball and enjoying an average of 2.2 tackles and 1.3 shots per game in the league.

For that reason, the idea of losing him doesn't bear thinking about for Wolves, especially with Joao Moutinho now 35 years of age and unlikely to sustain optimum performance levels for much longer in his career.

The lure of playing for Manchester United may be hard to ignore, regardless of their current plight, and it could be that Neves sees it as a difficult move to turn down, having been hailed as 'excellent' by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Should that happen, Wolves must ensure that they receive huge money for a player whose current deal doesn't expire until 2024, putting them in a strong bargaining position to at least reap a big enough fee to allow for replacements of similar or greater quality to be brought in.
