It has been a difficult season for Charlie Daniels, who has been struggling with a serious knee injury.
In fact, because of it, it has probably been one to forget overall for the Bournemouth defender. And now at 32 years of age, it is likely that the Vitality Stadium faithful have seen the best of him.
Still, regardless of what Daniels can or cannot do once he is back to full fitness, the Englishman has still been a fantastic servant to the south coast club.
Signed for just a measly £203k from Leyton Orient back in 2012 (Transfermarkt), Daniels has played a big part in Bournemouth’s incredible journey from League One to the Premier League.
In that left-back/left wing-back position, Daniels has looked right at home since the Cherries’ promotion to English football’s top flight in 2015.
Going forward, he can be a real threat with that dangerous left foot of his. It was only the previous campaign where the former Tottenham youth player scored an exquisite half-volley against Manchester City, displaying the sort of technique his left foot possesses.
That and the 250+ appearances he has made for Eddie Howe’s side, show just what an acquisition Daniels has been.
At £200k, it was incredible business, business you will find hard to replicate in this ridiculously inflated market.
About to enter their fifth Premier League season and following some very good signings such as Jefferson Lerma and David Brooks last summer, Bournemouth are slowly moving away from the core that got them to where they are today.
But that transition will not cause the Bournemouth faithful to forget about someone like Daniels and the role he has played in their club’s accession.
