Profit Players: Harry Wilson

Wilson

Liverpool have enjoyed a hugely successful season but look likely to end the campaign without any silverware. It will certainly be a grievance for many fans, but they can be assured that the future is bright. One player they may have to look forward to is Harry Wilson, who has certainly raised some eyebrows this season.

For all the attacking talent at their disposal, Liverpool’s depth is perhaps slightly lacking. Yes, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane represent one of the most potent attacks in world football. But who do they have on the bench? Xherdan Shaqiri? Divock Origi? Indeed, capable. But arguably not the type to get the fans excited.

Should they decide to keep him at the club, Liverpool will be handed a huge boost with the return of Harry Wilson, who has spent the season on-loan at Derby.

The attacking midfielder has excelled this season under the management of Frank Lampard. He boasts very impressive stats, scoring 15 goals in 37 league appearances and has been crucial in helping Derby achieve a play-off place. In fact, the Englishman’s latest goal was a penalty against West Brom that essentially secured sixth place for the Rams. With the score tied at 1-1, the midfielder was also instrumental in Derby taking the lead, his saved shot falling to Mason Bennett who finished from close range.

Wilson clearly has an abundance of potential, but is yet to feature for Liverpool’s first-team. The 22-year-old has spent the last few seasons on loan at Crewe, Hull and now Derby. He now looks ready for the Premier League, however. Whether this is with Derby or Liverpool remains to be seen. Wilson, who also has two goals in nine appearances for Wales, is valued at £6.8m by TransferMarket. Should the Welshman not be a part of the Liverpool squad next season, a fee far superior will surely be required.

Liverpool fans will certainly keep a keen eye on the midfielder who now comes up against Leeds in the Championship play-off semi-final. It will be interesting to see what happens if Derby are to gain promotion to the Premier League. But one thing is for certain, Liverpool have a potential star in their ranks.

Liverpool fans, would you like to see Wilson given a chance next season? Do you need to make a high-profile signing, or is Wilson good enough? Comment below.
