Leeds United are pushing for a place in the Premier League next year and it seems manager Marcelo Bielsa intends on boosting his chances of doing this by signing Tottenham outcast Fernando Llorente (via The Sun).
It’s a match made in heaven. The big Spanish forward finds himself in a helpless situation at his current club, residing on the bench most of the time and wasting away his final years of professional football, whilst Bielsa is constantly trying to negotiate plans around numerous injuries to his front line.
It wouldn’t be their first time working together either – the Argentine managed Llorente at Athletic Bilbao a few years back so he’s well aware of the qualities he possesses.
A quality forward is exactly what Leeds United need. But what else?
Here are two players we firmly believe could be the making of Bielsa’s bid for promotion…
Moise Kean
You wouldn’t have thought Leeds would be linked with some of the finest young talents in European football a few years back, but here we are today with Juventus’ hot prospect Moise Kean reportedly in their sights (via the Birmingham Mail).
The u-21 Italian star has been named in the Juventus senior squad this year but is yet to appear in a single minute of football for them. But Leeds fans needn’t worry – the quality is certainly there. After all, he is the first player born in the 2000s to score in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
He’s a promising player with pace in abundance and physicality in abundance. The technical aspect of his game maybe needs a little work but that’s nothing Bielsa can’t address.
Tom Heaton
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has done a good enough job since he was thrust into the hot seat last season. Far better than fans could have probably imagined, anyway.
However, we’re heading into the January transfer window now and questions are starting to be asked over his suitability as the first choice keeper. Indeed, a few mistakes have slowly made their way into his game-costing his team vital points, including a couple shockers at the hand of West Bromwich Albion the other week.
Tom Heaton, who will be vying for a spot in the Burnley lineup following lengthy injury breaks, could well be the perfect replacements. He’s got a point to prove, with Joe Hart currently occupying the starting spot, and will be looking to make them in any way possible. If that means being a key member of a promotion charge, then so be it.
