Several English clubs are rumoured to be interested in young French defender Alassane Tambe and have sent scouts to track the starlet’s progress.
Wigan, West Brom, West Ham and Leicester are all watching the Paris Saint-Germain player as he has recently broken into the French u19 team, despite rarely featuring for PSG’s first team.
Some of the four teams interested have already informed Tambe of their interest in him and opened preliminary discussions with the club.
Unfortunately for the youngster he faces a similar fate to that of many youth players at wealthy clubs; his progress into the first team will almost certainly be blocked by an established import, brought in on big wages.
PSG were of course bought by the Qatar Investment Authority and so director of football, Leonard, has a vast transfer kitty at his disposal.
Therefore until PSG can be certain of the 19-year-old’s ability he may well be loaned out with a buy-back option should he fulfil the expectations many have of him.
This kind of deal is more likely to interest a team in the Championship then the Premier League, who would probably prefer not to loan such an inexperienced player.
So unless PSG are willing to sell, it may be the likes of Leicester or West Ham, who already make use of loan players, that would be more interested in this sort of arrangement.
West Ham have also been linked with a loan move for out of favour Newcastle player Alan Smith as their injury list continues to cause midfield selection problems.
But given his own fitness worries over the years he would probably not add much to the squad except to take up a space on the physio’s table.
