Rangers continue to be linked with move for Martin Skrtel

Rangers are thought to still be interested in bringing one man to Ibrox that they were heavily linked with during the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Fotomac, Steven Gerrard is still believed to be keen on reuniting with Martin Skrtel.

The duo played together at Liverpool and formed a good relationship during their time at Anfield.

The Light Blues were consistently linked with a move for the defender, however, nothing materialised in the summer window.

However, it appears that Gerrard has not quite given up on bringing the Slovakian back to the United Kingdom and could look to make a move for him in January.

Skrtel’s current deal with Fenerbahce expires in the summer and the Scottish Premiership side could look to take advantage of that situation, as he will be allowed to speak with clubs at the turn of the year.

The 33-year-old is still a key player for the Istanbul giants though, so getting a deal done could be difficult as the Turkish outfit will look to do all they can to extend the enforcer’s current deal.

The Verdict:

The rumours of Skrtel heading to Rangers had started when Gerrard had initially taken over the Light Blues and carried on for the majority of the summer, without anything materialising.

It remains to be seen if the Ibrox outfit look to head back for him in January, especially given that wage demands were once thought to have been an issue.

Gerrard added a number of defenders to his ranks in the summer, however, it is believed that he is keen on bringing more into the club, so there is a chance that this move finally happens.
