The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping Steven Gerrard will bolster his attacking options this summer and recent reports suggest he has identified a potential target to pursue in the coming weeks.
According to the Scottish Sun, Gerrard is keeping tabs on Roma’s 21-year-old striker Umar Sadiq whom he wishes to sign on a loan deal this summer. Any potential deal rests on NAC Breda’s decision to sign Sadiq permanently following his loan spell with the club last season according to the report, but whether the Eredivisie side will extend his stay remains to be seen.
With that in mind, Rangers should table a bid for Sadiq’s services as soon as possible, as the progress he made in Holland in recent months suggests he could become a real handful for defenders in the SPFL. After joining NAC Breda towards the end of the January transfer window, Sadiq managed to score 5 goals and provide 3 assists from 12 appearances for the club – only 6 of which were made from the outset.
Considering he is only 21-years-old, his record with NAC Breda suggests he is a bright talent simply waiting to be unearthed, and the SPFL could represent the perfect place for him to continue his progress next season.
The arrival of Sadiq (valued at £1.62 million by Transfermarkt) would give Gerrard an alternative to Morelos in attack and hand him the opportunity to experiment with a different approach to breaking down Rangers’ opponents due to his physical strength and commanding aerial presence.
With Sadiq almost certainly surplus to requirements at Roma, Rangers would be wise to capitalise on his availability this summer and add further depth to their attacking options.
The fact that Sadiq should be available on a financially viable loan deal combined with his potential to succeed in Scotland suggests Gerrard could be set to complete one of the signings of the season this summer, so if NAC Breda surrender their option to sign the Nigerian striker Rangers should act quickly to bring a potential goal-machine him to Ibrox.
