Rangers: Fans call for Nikola Katic to start against Young Boys

A lot of Rangers fans on Twitter have called for defender Nikola Katic to start in tonight’s Europa League clash against Young Boys in the absence of the injured Filip Helander.

Steven Gerrard confirmed in yesterday’s pre-match press conference that the Swedish centre-back will miss the match at Ibrox due to a foot injury, while George Edmundson could also miss out if he doesn’t recover from the illness which ruled him out of Wednesday’s training session.

With just four senior centre-backs in the Light Blues’ squad, the absence of that duo would probably lead to Katic being given a chance from the start tonight.

The 23-year-old Croatian hasn’t featured much this season, though, with no action in the Europa League group stage and only seven minutes of game-time since he last started a match against Hearts in October. [via TransferMarkt]

Connor Goldson and Helander have been Gerrard’s preferred defensive duo this season, although both came in for criticism from reporters following last week’s draw at Aberdeen.
